New website and Smart School Council Manual
Hello all,
Hope you all had a fantastic summer break and are looking forward to the new school year. We’ve had a really busy few months getting our new website and manual ready. I just wanted to write a quick blog post about the changes we’ve made and why we’ve done them.
Testing the model
Over the last academic year, we’ve been implementing our Smart School Council model in primary, secondary and special schools across the country. This helps to involve all students in the school council and opens up learning and skills development to every student. Support from the Young Foundation‘s fantastic Young Academy programme helped us to clarify a single model that would work in all different types of school.
Getting the model going in a school would involve us visiting that school or a local school to train up a staff members at a CPD session – our Masterclass. During this time, we’ve collected some impact statistics to show how it works and importantly identified the step by step process that schools who implemented it successfully had gone through.
Towards the end of the school year, we realised that we could only reach a certain number of schools if implementing the model relied on us going to the school. As a small team of two core team members, we wanted to impact bigger numbers of students. With this in mind, and with the learning from a year of implementing the model, we decided to create the Smart School Council Manual. This process was supported by another fantastic organisation, Not Dead Fish, who helped us to clarify what this would look like and how it should be presented.
The Smart School Council Manual
The manual includes all the resources the schools need to make their school council smart, with a step by step process that makes it easy for schools to follow. Adopting this model will involve 100% of students in the Smart School Council, meaning that everyone is directly involved in learning skills. It also directly addresses Ofsted requirements around British Values/SMSC and Prevent.
Basic information on the model is available for free members, but schools can purchase premium membership for £129 (primary) and £149 (secondary). This includes one year’s of access to the Manual (including all resource downloads, detailed training plans and support from our Smart School Council experts). Importantly, it also includes access to all the web tools to power the model and make it easy for the school to manage and track involvement.
