Exciting opportunities for your school
We’re always on the lookout for new ways to get a wider range of pupils involved in exciting activities in their school. These are a few of the organisations and projects we’ve come across recently.
The Burnet News Club
The Burnet News Club gives disadvantaged students the knowledge, skills, platforms and connections to interpret current affairs and have their say. It was set up from within The Economist, so schools get exceptional news content for young people and a unique approach to engaging them with it and bringing them into the conversations shaping their society.
Team London Young Ambassadors
Team London Young Ambassadors is the Mayor of London’s volunteering programme for schools. The programme inspires and supports young people to develop community projects on social issues which they are passionate about such as homelessness, bullying, food poverty and connecting generations. Since launching in September 2013, Team London are now working in 1,500 schools across London, with the aim to offer the programme to all London schools by the end of 2017. Currently 300,000 young people have been reached through the programme with over 70,000 inspired to actively volunteer.
The programme is delivered in partnership with WE Day and is fully funded by Spirit of 2012, Unilever and the Mayor of London.

Stemmettes
Stemettes, an award-winning social enterprise which has reached 8000 girls since its launch in 2013, works with teachers and girls to do just that. Stemette’s aim to encourage girls into STEM using three key tools – fun sessions, tasty food to keep brains functioning, and one-on-one interactions with inspiring women who have built successful STEM careers.
At your school, we can help you inspire your girls into STEM by:
- Running day-long workshops in schools where we introduce girls to exciting aspects of STEM like coding and app building;
- Working with corporate sponsors, we host larger introduction to STEM events which can be attended by multiple schools at one time – for example, on 28 January 2016 we ran a multi-city event in London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Dublin and Newcastle which introduced 1800 girls to the exciting possibilities of STEM and enabled them to network with STEM role models;
- We have already started hosting our SIAD’s (Stem In A Day) this year with Accenture and continue to receive positive feedback from teachers and girls alike.
Don’t worry though, if you haven’t yet joined us you still have plenty of chances! Contact our school stemette – [email protected].
